$100,000 to Complete New Community Centre

16 March 2019

A Shorten Labor Government will deliver $100,000 for Moreton’s Taiwanese Community to complete the Taiwan Women’s League of Queensland (“TWLQ”) Community Centre.

Federal Member for Moreton, Graham Perrett made the announcement at the TWLQ’s 26th Anniversary celebration on Saturday.

“This $100,000 investment will support the Taiwanese community in Moreton to complete the construction of a permanent, modern and accessible community centre,” said Mr Perrett.

“This community centre will help us connect with and preserve traditional culture. It will also support the work of TWLQ including art classes, health and education seminars, English language lessons and so much more.

“For 26 years, the TWLQ has set out to promote harmony and multiculturalism, and to enrich the quality of life for women. I am proud to stand up for these principles and help make this Community Centre a reality.

“A Shorten Labor Government is committed to promoting an inclusive society where everyone is able to preserve and share culture, traditions and values.”

This funding will enable the Centre to be completed and includes the installation of modern kitchen facilities, two meeting and conference spaces, wooden flooring for a multipurpose hall and audio and visual amenities. These facilities will be available for the whole community.

The completion of this Community Centre is a project the whole Southside community will benefit from, now and into the future.

This commitment delivers on Labor’s goal of supporting a fair go for Australia’s multicultural communities.
