A Shorten Labor Government will deliver $100,000 for Moreton’s Chinese Community to build an extension to the Cathay Community Association community centre.
Federal Member for Moreton, Graham Perrett made the announcement at the Cathay Community Association community centre on Monday.
“This $100,000 investment will support the Chinese community in Moreton to build an extension to their existing community centre,” said Mr Perrett.
“This community centre has a proud history of looking after the elderly in their community. This extension will provide important facilities including a men’s shed, garden group area and a dementia room.
“For more than 35 years, the Cathay Community Association, formerly the Cathay Club has assisted Chinese migrants in the community. Their contribution to the local community, particular their care for the aged, has been substantial.
“I am fortunate to represent a harmonious multicultural community and the Cathay Community Association has played an enormous role in this community’s success. The community centre is host to many events for the benefit of the wider Southside community.
“A Shorten Labor Government is committed to promoting an inclusive society where everyone is able to preserve and share culture, traditions and values.”
This funding will enable the Centre to provide more services to the community, including facilities targeted to specific needs and interests. These facilities will be available for the whole community.
The completion of this extension to the Community Centre is a project the whole Southside community will benefit from, now and into the future.
This commitment delivers on Labor’s goal of supporting a fair go for Australia’s multicultural communities.
