Labor Will Upgrade Facilities for Tarragindi Tigers FC

30 April 2019

A Shorten Labor Government will invest $200,000 towards a new clubhouse featuring female-friendly change rooms and amenities, along with lighting and field upgrades at the Tarragindi Tigers Football Club.

This election will be a choice between a Shorten Labor Government with a plan for the needs of our sporting communities, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos.

Member for Moreton Graham Perrett said rapid growth in women’s football made supporting female participation particularly important for the sport’s future in Queensland.

“The Tarragindi Tigers field about 1,000 players in grades from Mini Roos to junior girls and boys and senior men’s and women’s sides, across summer and winter competitions,” Mr Perrett said.

“The number of female players is expected to grow by 50-100 per cent in quick time and Labor’s investment in female-friendly change rooms and amenities will support that growth.”

Member for Griffith Terri Butler said upgrades would also benefit local schools that use the grounds for events.

“Our local school communities will be able to hold bigger and better events more often once the club facilities are improved,” Ms Butler said.

Labor candidate for Bonner Jo Briskey said Labor’s commitment was about promoting healthy and active lifestyles, inclusive opportunities for women, and community spirit.

“Whether they dream of playing for the Socceroos or the Matildas, or just want to enjoy the benefits of being physically active, we want to ensure all communities have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of sport and Labor’s support will help the Tigers’ do that for Tarragindi and surrounding neighbourhoods,” Ms Briskey said.

This election is a choice between Labor’s plan for better hospitals, schools and local community sporting facilities, or bigger tax handouts for the top end of town and Liberal cuts to schools and hospitals.
